A couple months ago, Allie and I were lucky enough to meet Brad Hennefer. Brad is an adult advocate for Down syndrome. That means that Brad has Down syndrome and he advocates for himself and others with DS. Brad and his father came to talk to us during a Golfing tournament for our Parent Advocates Down Syndrome group in Birmingham. Brad was very inspiring and we enjoyed listening to him and his father talk about Brad's experiences and his Golf For Life program.
Brad is a very athletic individual. You might have seen some footage of him playing basketball on the Internet. (Click Here I'm having a hard time getting the video to play past the intro 15 second commercials, but maybe you will have better luck). He has also played Golf for many years and now teaches other individuals with Down syndrome how to play the sport. You can also go to his website to learn more about him. http://http//www.golfforlife.org/
Brad is also being honored tomorrow as one of the 30 heroes from across the country honored by People Magazine and Major League Baseball at the league’s All-Star Game.
Brad will be recognized for starting his Golf For Life program. Nominations were solicited from across the country and then narrowed to 90 finalists. Then, the public voted online to determine the 30 heroes who will be honored at Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game July 14 in St. Louis.

Congratulations, Brad! It is an honor to know you!
Thanks for letting everyone know that having Down syndrome is only the beginning of many wonderful things. Life is what you make it - and Brad is making it wonderful for so many people!
