Oh What Fun!

We have had a wonderful week!

Allie is just thriving here at the house. After 71 days in the NICU, we brought her home on January 28th. Since then life has been full of hugs and kisses xoxoxoxo! I am letting her get her rest, as a baby demands it, but it has been so much fun to have her here in her room and in her home.

Everything is going wonderful. We've had a few visitors, but have mostly kept a low profile. Becasue of Allie's VSD, we are probably going to try to keep her out of crowds for a while. Better safe than sorry you know. Allie had two doctors appointments last week. We met her pedatrician and found out that Allie gained a little weight. She was up to 5 pounds 12 ounces - 3 ounces more than two days earlier. We have several more appointments coming up, but all is well and Allie seems happy to be home (although, she has mentioned missing her nurses and her NICU girlfiends, so I'm sure a visit will occur before you all know it.)

I know you are all wondering how it is going with Nicholas - you know, the big brother - Allie's puppy dog - Nicky. He has been fantastic around her! He is very gentle when he is curious and wants to sniff. He has left her toys alone and has kept the barking to a minimal. He did seem to pout occassionally in the first day or two, but we make sure to let him know we haven't forgotten him and I think he is just happy we are home more than we have been in months.

Getting to know Allie has been so joyful. While we "knew" her in the NICU, her personality shines when you spend more time with her and as she grows and blossoms. She is a very patient baby with a lovely disposition. She doesn't cry much - and when she does - you know she needs something. It isn't just to cry. (Let's all pray this behavior continues, please). She might let out a tiny little "waah" and then she waits to see what we do. That works well for us!

Well, as you can tell, life has gotten busy for me and I'll probably only update the blog weekly, although, as I get used to things perhaps I can update more often. I'm on vacation this week, too, and will enjoy every mintue of it with my precious little baby!!

She came home this past Monday, the 4th (one full week after Allie)! How exciting and busy this past week has been!! It looks like Allie's growing up and having lots of fun at home. Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Dear Lovell Family,

These pictures and stories are priceless, thank you for finding time to write to all of us. I remember when I had to write letters and wait for a letter in return. This is much mire exciting.

Love to you all,

Granma

To my one and only Little Al,

Hi, Allie! It's your f-a-v-o-r-i-t-e, not-related-but-just-as-fun-and-exciting aunt in Nashville. I'm writing to you from the cold and windy city of Breckenridge, Colorado, but I'll be back in the Music City tonight.

Man, oh man are you growing quickly and getting lots of wonderful L-O-V-E!!!!!! Your parents are in love with you, as we all are, and I just cannot wait to meet you in person!! (and spoil you, of course, so there's something in this for you as well! :-))

I really hope you like the nickname I've been using for you... I'm such a huge Alabama fan, you know, and our mascot is Big Al, and I love using Little Al for you. It's a compliment, but I'll understand if you want me to pick out something else later on. I'm hoping it'll be our special endearment, but I'm also willing to share if other 'bama fans want to get in on the action. :-)

I upload your web site almost every day with anticipation, enjoyment, excitement, and love. I'm only a few miles up the road and hope that we'll be able to drive to meet one another very often over the years. If Mom & Dad ever drive you nuts (doubtful!), just know I'm here and will dote on you as much as humanly possible.

Again, I can't wait to see you, hold you, and give you countless hugs & kisses. Sounds like a great time to me!

Lots of love,
-Leah
