Making Good Progress

Our little trooper is just doing wonderful. Today she is slowly waking up and we are slowly starting to relax a bit. We were even able to rest and take a nap we felt so comfortable with her progress today. Throughout the night they will continue to decrease her medicines and allow her to wake up a bit more. We are looking at removing the ventilator perhaps as early as Tuesday. But, all depends on Allie and she could decide to remove it earlier (remember our little girl from the NICU that took out all of her tubes?) Seriously, the doctor's will remove the ventilator early this week and Allie will continue to progress.

After surgery, we were informed that there was concern about Allie's lungs. We were given an update on that today. Basically, because of all that was going on with her heart and lungs and the blood flow through both, her lungs had gotten "wet" or "flooded". This caused the top portion of her left lung to collapse. With the closing of the VSD, the lung should be getting back to full capacity.

All in all, Allie is doing wonderfully and watching her move after being still for 4 days was wonderful and we wanted to share that experience with you.

P.S. A special note to Allie's first CICU nurse, Nicole Pacifico -thank you for your comments on the previous blog, we've posted a comment back to you and look forward to seeing you again.

Allie,

We are SO proud of you. Please keep being strong and know that our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you and your family. Thank you for letting your sweet parents take a picture of you. Years from now, you will look back and know what a trooper you were. I continue to look for updates and continue to pray for you.

I was telling LeLe today that as soon as you girls are big enough that we will have to go play at the park. We are so proud of you!

Dear Allie: 'The Grandpa' is so proud of what a fighter you are, and so happy at how well you are doing. The doctor's news about your lung filling back out is just wonderful! Now all God has to do is work on those compressed arteries. You're almost home girl! Hang in there!
Love, 'The Grandpa' (& ... 'the Granma too)
